● Renting a flat out of the campus

The university dormitories do not provide enough number of beds compared to the large number of students. Therefore, students are busy in finding flats before new semester starts. We strongly suggest you come to Taiwan earlier and find a flat before your study starts.

Some information you have to know before looking for your new home in Taiwan:

In Taiwan, we use a different way, which is called 坪 (ping), to measure the space of a house. 1坪 (ping) = 3.30579 square meters.

Some flats may not have a kitchen.

There are many flats out of campus you can look for. Prices are various based on types of flats. In general, flats with shared bathroom cost around NTD 5,000 per month, flats with ensuite bathroom (but shared other spaces with other people) cost around NTD 6,500 per month. Owning the whole flat which is about 10 坪 (ping) costs approximately NTD 7,000 per month.

Be always careful when you look for a flat and sign the contract. It is better if there is anyone, especially who knows Chinese, accompanying you to check your prospective flat.

The following is a link which provides you information about renting flats. Admittedly, websites of renting houses are mostly in Chinese only. It would be more ideal if you can find a Taiwanese friend search it for you.
